On the nose various loads of ripe white stone fruits and zesty citrus abound. This follows through to taste with the same fresh zesty citrus and succulent stone fruit, combined with an underlying lees driven textural backbone and mineral concentration. A perfectly balanced and crunchy acidity gives the wine lift, presence and poise.

Vintage 2022 was rather a mixed bag with warm weather leading into Christmas and the new year, followed with some strong fresh winds and warm night then early vintage it started raining. Choosing when and how often to pick was the key, getting fruit in clean with higher acids, or leaving it out through the rains and getting it in ripe but with lower acids.

About Jackson Estate Wines

In 1855 Adam Jackson bought his first blocks of land in the heart of the Marlborough region, along with what was to become known as Jacksons road. The infamous gum tree known as the ‘Grey ghost’ was planted shortly after in 1867 on the land now known as our Homestead vineyard.

Fast forward to 1990 and fifth generation Jackson, John Stichbury planted the first vines on the homestead block, with their first wines released in 1991 – Jackson estate wines were born. Proceeding to go from strength to strength, taking out the coveted Sauvignon Blanc trophy at the London International wine competition in 1993.

The Benton family bought Jackson estate in 2013 and in 2016 the Benton’s started building the pinot specific winery and cellar door that opened in 2017. This has ensured that we can refine and further develop our Pinot Noir program with award winning hand crafted wines that we can share on a world stage.

We now have a 250 tonne winery, compromising of over 52 small batch tanks, and a unique cellar door. Brian Massey (art director of the Hobbit trilogy) tasked with creating a concept for the building he brought the X factor with ‘collision architecture’. Based on the original 1850’s settlers huts with the juxtaposition of the burgundy coloured winery jutting out from the centre, walking inside into a contemporary and stylish tasting room.

The company went through many changes in its first 100 years, including the manufacture and distribution of spirits. Over the course of years the company changed names several times with the core of the company being the basis of what we now know as Lion.
