About Clos de l’Ours Wines
The origins of the domain are distant. They date back to the Middle Ages, when a large part of Cotignac and its surroundings were among the possessions of the Templars.
The adventure began for us in 2012, changing our lives to become winegrowers on this old plot of 15 hectares of vines, a natural Clos surrounded by woods, in Provence Verte, at the crossroads between the Gorges du Verdon, the Mediterranean and the Côte d’Azur.
Our estate , one of the furthest north in the Côtes de Provence appellation , benefits from an exceptional microclimate . The thermal amplitudes are significant, especially in summer, with hot days and cool nights, which is very profitable for our vines and allows a slow and regular maturity of our grapes.
More than 3000 hours of sunshine per year and the protection of the mistral against humidity provide valuable assistance to our work as winegrowers.
The clay-limestone soil is perfectly suited to our Provençal grape varieties and allows our old vines to express their full potential.
The vineyard has eight grape varieties, three whites, Rolle, Clairette and Ugni-blanc and five red grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault .
Our vines are on average 50 years old, with our oldest vines being almost 100 years old…
Our philosophy, simply to accompany nature…
Our vines are grown biodynamically.
We promote biodiversity in our vines through our farming practices, particularly plowing with horses.
Many species of birds, bats, insects and mammals live in the vineyard throughout the year and bear witness to a living ecosystem and soil.
Our cellar is made up of oak tuns and barrels, concrete eggs, enameled steel and stainless steel vats.
