About Mud House Wines

Our wines are created and crafted by adventurers themselves for those seeking adventure in their everyday. No matter where you are in the world, when you open a bottle of Mud House you’ll sense the taste of adventure.

Our founders were a courageous couple who embarked on a sailing tour of the world. On one of the earliest stops, they found New Zealand. They quickly fell in love and decided to end their tour of the world to build a mud house in New Zealand and planted vineyards.

After preparing the land and planting vines, they used the local earth to build their home. That home became our brand. Over twenty years on, with a renewed sense of energy, we remain as in touch with the land as our name suggests.

Hancocks

The Hancocks name traces its origins back to 1859 when Thomas Hancock purchased the Captain Cook Inn in Khyber Pass Road Newmarket. Hancocks originally started life as a brewer and publican. The company went through many changes in its first 100 years, including the manufacture and distribution of spirits. Over the course of years the company changed names several times with the core of the company being the basis of what we now know as Lion.
