COLOUR: Intensely and brightly coloured wine with a deep red/purple hue.

NOSE: Aromas of spice and dark cherry supported by subtle nuances of toasty oak and complex aromas of mushroom and floral characters.

PALATE: The wine delivers elegant Pinot flavours in a full-bodied and refined style that showcases varietal flavours. These vibrant, varietal flavours are complemented by firm but silky tannins and well balanced use of oak that adds a further tannin dimension to the wine. The palate is full and exceptionally balanced with great length of flavour. It finishes dry with perfect weight and mouthfeel.

VINEYARD REGION: 100% Waipara Valley, North Canterbury

VINTAGE CONDITIONS: The 2019 Vintage in Waipara, North Canterbury was exceptional. Rainfall in the summer/autumn was only half that of the previous season and it fell at the perfect time for vine health. The lower rainfall meant that disease pressure was greatly reduce, allowing all fruit to be picked in pristine condition. The season in Waipara was also the coolest of any of the major regions in NZ. This coolness has had the effect of enhancing fruit flavours and creating wines of great elegance.

WINEMAKING: This wine was made from fruit selected from the best area of the Waiata vineyard. The fruit was destemmed without crushing to retain a percentage of whole berries in the ferment which gives aromatic complexity. Fermentation was carried out in small fermenters with regular daily hand plunging of the cap to extract colour and tannins. Further maceration post-ferment and prior to pressing has enhanced the palate with soft but firm tannins. After malolactic fermentation the wine underwent 12 months maturation in relatively new French oak barrels prior to stabilising for bottling. The wine has not been fined in order to retain maximum flavour and mouthfeel.

About TIKI Wine

By the end of 2006 Waiata Vineyard in Waipara was fully planted and we had found some more vineyard land in the unplanted Upper Wairau Valley in Marlborough that we thought showed real promise.

We decided to expand into the Marlborough region and over the next few years we kept busy developing the new Marlborough sites and then in 2009 we finally got to taste the fruit of our labour with the release of our first vintage of Tiki Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc.

This wine won Gold medals and numerous accolades which was an amazing result from such young vines and confirmed our earlier thinking over the quality potential of these vineyards.

Today, Tiki has one of the largest vineyards in North Canterbury Wine Region of New Zealand with 320 hectares planted in vines. Our Marlborough vineyard now sold, we continue to produce award winning wines here in North Canterbury that Tiki wine lovers are enjoying all over the world.

As a company we are an indigenous NZ Māori wine producer that is committed to sustainable winegrowing. We care for our vines under the guiding Maori principles of Kaitiakitanga: guardianship, protection and preservation of the earth.

TIKI Wine Vineyards is located in Aotearoa.

Aotearoa summers have plenty of heat and sunshine, but it’s at nightfall when the magic really happens. When the sun dips below the horizon and takes its warm kiss away from our islands, the temperatures quickly drop and we are reminded of our secluded geographical location in the Southern Ocean.

It is this unique geographic positioning that gives us one of the longest grape growing seasons on earth which is so special to the creation of our wines. Cold night time temperatures help to capture the elegant acidity and the unmistakable zesty flavours and fragrances that are the hallmark of our wines.
