COLOUR: A delicate, pale green/gold.

NOSE: Strongly aromatic with an intense nose showcasing classic Sauvignon Blanc aromas of tropical fruits, gooseberry and capsicum.

PALATE: The palate shows tropical notes and good weight highlighting the warm growing conditions in the vineyard over the 2021 growing season. The palate is rich but supported by balance acidity and a long morish finish. The wine has immediate appeal and is marked by a flavour intensity that creates great length in the palate.

REGION: 100% Waipara, North Canterbury

VINTAGE: The 2021 Vintage in Waipara, North Canterbury was warm and dry. Heat summation was well up on average while rainfall was 50% less than normal over the last three months before harvest. The lower rainfall meant that disease pressure was not present, allowing the winemaker to be patient and instruct the picking of the fruit in absolute pristine condition where the balance of sugar and acid were tasted at their premium. The fruit was harvested a few weeks ahead of normal due to these warm days and cool nights.

WINEMAKING: The fruit was harvested at maximum flavour as assessed through frequent tasting in the vineyard by the winemaker. We picked across the vineyard at different times and degrees of ripeness to allow the individual cuvees a range of site expression. Extended skin contact time was used prior to crushing to enhance extraction of the aromatic compounds. The fruit was then very gently pressed to avoid harsh phenolic extraction and the juice allowed to cold settle. The clear juice was fermented at low temperatures using a range of yeast renowned for their ability to enhance the Sauvignon Blanc aromas. A balanced amount of residual sugar was left in the wine to complement the acidity and to add palate weight and structure.

About TIKI Wine

By the end of 2006 Waiata Vineyard in Waipara was fully planted and we had found some more vineyard land in the unplanted Upper Wairau Valley in Marlborough that we thought showed real promise.

We decided to expand into the Marlborough region and over the next few years we kept busy developing the new Marlborough sites and then in 2009 we finally got to taste the fruit of our labour with the release of our first vintage of Tiki Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc.

This wine won Gold medals and numerous accolades which was an amazing result from such young vines and confirmed our earlier thinking over the quality potential of these vineyards.

Today, Tiki has one of the largest vineyards in North Canterbury Wine Region of New Zealand with 320 hectares planted in vines. Our Marlborough vineyard now sold, we continue to produce award winning wines here in North Canterbury that Tiki wine lovers are enjoying all over the world.

As a company we are an indigenous NZ Māori wine producer that is committed to sustainable winegrowing. We care for our vines under the guiding Maori principles of Kaitiakitanga: guardianship, protection and preservation of the earth.

TIKI Wine Vineyards is located in Aotearoa.

Aotearoa summers have plenty of heat and sunshine, but it’s at nightfall when the magic really happens. When the sun dips below the horizon and takes its warm kiss away from our islands, the temperatures quickly drop and we are reminded of our secluded geographical location in the Southern Ocean.

It is this unique geographic positioning that gives us one of the longest grape growing seasons on earth which is so special to the creation of our wines. Cold night time temperatures help to capture the elegant acidity and the unmistakable zesty flavours and fragrances that are the hallmark of our wines.
